Halloween is around the corner!

Dia de Los Muertos

Halloween is a favorite at the stores, always has been. We get to break out the Dia de Los Muertos gear (Day of the Dead for those not Spanish language inclined), the severed bloody body parts, the blood capsules and of course the annual decorating of the Fall window! This year, Makenzie has some funny scarecrows made with love and in the design of employees in some crazy predicament! As I type this she is destroying bales of hay for body stuffing, hanging attack crows, making the butt of one employee’s scarecrow large (true story) and preparing to carve up some pumpkins for the head. Be sure to stop by the stores in the next couple of days to see the spectacle!

Enjoy the Halloween season by going to a haunted house, doing some trick-or-treating and dressing up as something disgusting. Cheers, everyone!

Living on Your Own

So you’ve finally gotten the chance to move out of Mom and Dad’s place to either share a wee little dorm with a stranger or share a three bedroom home with five other people and it is time to get organized so you don’t lose your mind, right?

The dishes keep piling up, the milk is always drained every time you go to pour it into your morning breakfast, the late night parties are no fun to clean up after…sigh….at least Mom isn’t yelling at you to clean your room anymore, right?….right?…. Solution? The Roomate FYI Notepad!! It has a magnet on the back so you can affix it to your lovely (smelly) fridge and leave your new roomie a sweet little note about all of the things you’d really like for them to tidy up before you vomit from the smell of mold and body sweat.

Portsmouth is full of great shops to browse through in the summers or to do our holiday shopping in; and as of this summer there have been a couple of new faces appearing in town that we love! It’s great to see new shops and new ideas coming in and we want to be sure to spread the word about how cool they are!

One of our most recent favorites is right down the street from us called “Gus & Ruby Letterpress” run by two lovely women and named after their beloved dogs. These women love the art of a written letter and provide customers with a wide range of cards, paper (for both wrapping and writing), journals, photo albums, wedding invitations and more. All of the designs are clean, simple and classic and make us want to write home just a little more often! And not only are the products wonderful, but they have decorated the store so well that you just feel happy and content when browsing the many items. We are proud to support them and look forward to many years of shopping in their store.

Maybe it was your grandfather’s favorite toy, or the way your mother preferred to pass the time as a child – now kids of all ages can enjoy those classic toys all over again!

From wooden rubber band shooters to bicycle airplanes to fly alongside you as you race through the late summer air, Macro Polo has got them! We pride ourselves on having the toys that you remember but can’t find anywhere else so we are always good for a trip down memory lane.

Our online store is getting more and more of these items weekly for people to purchase when they are far away, but our store has even more choices (the slinky dog….remember him?!)

GurglePots are here!

Some of you may already know what a GurglePot is and have possibly been looking for one of these cool retro vases/decanters for your own home and now you can get them at Macroscopic!! If you don’t know, these are made of a glazed stoneware in a variety of beautiful colors that will either hold fresh cut garden flowers or decant water for the dinner table. They come in two sizes: the 43 ounce and the 16 ounce “creamer” size.

Already planning 2010?

I don’t know about you, but there are quite a few of us in the Macro world planning for the new year already. From myself who just can’t wait for 2009 to just be over with (crappy East Coast weather and a slowing economy) or for people like Liz, the manager of Macroscopic, who has a wedding in Florida coming up in the new year, there are quite a lot of us gearing up for 2010!

Macro, Unleashed now has some pretty spiffy calendars online for you to purchase! Lots of fun dog breeds from the Newfoundland to the Pomeranian and everything in between! And since they are online, you don’t even have to make the trip to our Portsmouth store to get in on the planning and crossing off dates for next summer’s vacation!
